Michael's Hunt

In mid summer of 2002, I had my first hog hunt booked with Willy. We went out and hunted all day. It was allot different from the deer hunts I've had. It was the hottest day of the year. It got to 105 degrees. Willy did his best to put me on some hogs. The Hogs however, did not cooperate. I came away empty handed.

I scheduled another hunt for October. I met Willy at the meeting place in Savoy again. This time was a bit different. He brought a few new one year old "pups" to train. He also brought along his friend Hoit and his dog. So, this time I was not too sure what to expect.

After only about an hour, the dogs were onto some game. A few moments later, they had stirred up a nice buck! Then, within only a few moments more, they were hard after a hog. It was great. Now we were cooking! The dogs were hard on the trail of a large hog. We saw them run past not very far away. After about an hour or more, we had lost the dogs, they had kept after the hog
relentlessly. Well, we gave up. We took the pups and Hoit's dog and tried another area.

Well, after only a short time, the pups had found us at least two more hogs. They sent one running right towards us. It ran by within only feet from us, the dogs right behind. Within moments, the pups had the hog bayed. Now it was my turn. I went in for the kill. It was great. The adrenaline rushing.
The hog hollering, the dogs barking, and Willy helping direct me in what I needed to do to take my kill.

Next time I hope to bring my youngest brother and maybe my 10 year old son along for the thrill. They've never been hunting before. It should be a good time for all of us. With Willy in charge, I'm sure it will be another great experience.

By the way, I sure hope Willy finally caught up with his other dogs. He was still looking for them after I drove away with my prize hog. What a thrill!  Thanks for a great hunt Willie.
